Team Diabetes Canada Volcano Hike

Blue circle for diabetes
Carly Ward, a 24 year old canadian citizen with type 1 diabetes, is going to conquer Rincon de la vieja, one of the active volcanoes in Guancaste, Costa Rica’s northern province. The hike is programed for May 7, 2011.
Carly is part of Team Diabetes Canada. Team Diabetes Canada is the national activity fundraising program for the Canadian Diabetes Association that promotes a healthy and active lifestyle to all Canadians. It raises funds for the provision of education and services, while advocating for our cause and breaking ground toward a cure.
Type 1 diabetes is fatal unless treated with insulin. It is known as juvenile diabetes. The treatment must be continued indefinitely in all cases.
About Rincon de la Vieja: it is a World Heritage site, as declared by UNESCO. It is one of the 5 active volcanoes in Costa Rica. It has an altitude of 1.895 meters. Rincon de la vieja was declared National Park in 1974.
From all of the staff members at Hacienda Guachipelin, we wish Carly and Team Diabetes Canada the best. We will be around in the event that we can be of any assistance.
