Nature Tours in Rincón de la Vieja, Guanacaste
Hike through the forest near the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano to the “Cangreja” (crab) Waterfall. Spilling 130 feet (40 meters) in a white ribbon of water through verdant forest, the waterfall forms a clear blue pool at its base. Dissolved copper salts have dyed the water a celestial blue.
The trail leads you 3 miles (5 km) into the Rincón de la Vieja National Park, where you can see a great variety of birds, such as the Blue-crowned Motmot, the Mountain Thrush and the Emerald Toucanet. You also may spot mammals like raccoons, white-nosed coatis, Central American agoutis, monkeys and armadillos, along with reptiles and insects.
Transportation is by car from the Hacienda to the National Park’s main gate and back (15 minutes each way). You can only enter the National Park by foot. Please note that the park is closed on Mondays.
