The first humans came to what is now Costa Rica thousands of years before Europeans arrived in the Americas. Explore the mysteries of the ancient peoples who lived by the Rincon de la Vieja National Park in the fascinating Archaeology Tour at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin.
Developed by a University of Costa Rica archaeologist, 14 archaeological sites including petroglyphs and tomb markers have been found around Hacienda Guachipelin. Our guided tour takes you along a peaceful forest trail by the hotel to see these intriguing artifacts and show you how this indigenous group lived during Pre-Columbian times.
You can imagine what life may have been like for these Costa Rican ancestors when you see depictions of their daily activities, like a life-size statue of a hunter ready with his spear and a woman kneeling on the ground grinding corn. A recreation of a burial tomb demonstrates their burial practices and beliefs about the afterlife.
We combine our Archaeology Tour with a visit to our fascinating Butterfly Garden, Serpentarium & Frog Exhibit to show you exotic native wildlife and beautiful nature.
During your visit to Hacienda Guachipelin, you can purchase 100% original, authentic and beautiful ceramic souvenirs, created by artisans descended from these indigenous groups.
