Mountain biking at Rincon de la Vieja Volcano in Costa Rica shifts into high gear in August with the newest Costa Rica mountain biking adventure race – 160K Rincon de la Vieja.
Starting from Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, on Aug. 20, 2016, mountain bikers of all levels will compete in three distances: 160 km (100 miles), 100 km (62 miles), and 50 km (31 miles) on the rugged terrain around the largest volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica.. The longest and most grueling route of 160 km circumnavigates the volcano on gravel roads, singletrack, and river and volcanic rock trails through five microclimates with close to 11,000 feet of elevation gain.
On the event’s Facebook page, they posted comments about the 50k route at Rincon de la Vieja by Sigrid Miller, one of the advance team: “Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to ride the route of 50 km. It’s an adventure: it goes along paths amid forests surrounded by vegetation, there are fantastic downhills that are not very steep, part of the journey on gravel with a spectacular view, and you have to go through a river that is an adventure. Then you have to go up on singletrack and finally reach the finish line. In short, it is an adventure to be enjoyed.”

MOUNTAIN BIKING TOURS AT RINCON DE LA VIEJA
Travelers in Costa Rica can experience the adventure of mountain biking at Rincon de la Vieja Volcano on one-of-a-kind Costa Rica mountain biking tours at Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin. The eco-adventure hotel offers two main mountain biking tours, and can also do private rides.
Tropical Trails Singletrack Mountain Bike Tour rides singletrack trails with three different levels: beginner, intermediate and expert. Hacienda Guachipelin maintains 30 kilometers of shaded singletrack mountain bike trails with scenic views by the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. Tours include a stop for waterfall swimming.
The Iron-Horse Mountain Bike Tour is a full-day multi-sport adventure that includes horseback riding, waterfall swimming, river tubing, and zip lining, in addition to mountain biking. A shortened half-day tour is also available with only horseback riding and mountain biking.
